What happens when one day your beloved pet becomes very old and then dies? What will you do besides crying a bucket full of tears?

Some of us have a house with a big garden. Then burying your dearest pet wouldn't be a problem (you'll just have to dig a large enough hole for the size of your pet). Most of us have houses with a tiny garden or none at all. So where will our dear dead pets go?

Solution --> the Pet Memorial. Apparently yes. They can help cremate or bury your pet for you. And they get bored of the same toys after a week or two. You would too! The relieving part is, they are not into branded stuff like us as they don't recognise brands at all. Pets just want something interesting to play with and to occupy their time. So here's something that you can make easily at home for your cat or dog without spending too much, or at all!

For Cats
Get an unwanted box and cut some holes on it (should be large enough for a paw to reach in). Then drop some toys into the box (it can be a ball with bells or something with sound), but just make sure that these toys are larger than the holes. Use some strong tape and tape the box shut after that. Voila! It's done! Show it to your cat and shake the box a little. Let it know there's something in it and then sit back and have fun watching your cat trying to fish out the stuffs!

For Dogs
If you have an old scarf or a long towel that you do not want anymore, do this - tie some knots into it, and it immediately turns into a toy! Proceed to play tug of war with your dog!

Shih-Tzu

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qYHZKsmIeQk/SaJd2gkDktI/AAAAAAAAAL0/eq5RLA20Pk8/s400/ShihTzuPup3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5305906502031348434" />
Shih-Tzu, pronounced as “Sure-ds” (not “Sheet-Sue or Shit-Zoo”), is also known as a little Lion Dog or a Chrysanthemum Dog (Hahaha… flower dog). It is originated from Tibet, but is most associated with China, where it is highly revered as a palace pet and prized companion (I thought it was the Pekingese… hmm).

Date of Origin : Arguably the Shih-Tzu dates back to the 17th century
Weight : 4 - 7kg
Height : 20 - 28cm
Coat : Long and dense; appearing harsher than it feels
Colour : All colours allowed, but white blaze and tail tip are highly prized
Life Expectancy : 16 years

The Shih-Tzu is an active, happy, and affectionate breed. It has a long, dense coat and its extremely long hair on the topmost of its head is typically tied into a knot with a ribbon to prevent eye and face irritations or infections. The coat varies in terms of colour and this breed is known to be minimal shedders (Very convenient-huh? Wait till you try grooming!).

Character wise, the Shih-Tzu is a sturdy and intelligent plus super cute dog. It carries itself with a noble and proud posture befitting its aristocratic ancestry. And guess what? One of its most valued characteristics is the eye, which exude warmth and a human-like quality.

Want to have a Shih-Tzu? Read about its temperament! First and foremost, the Shih-Tzu is a companion. This breed loves food, toys and of course, being very close to its family / owner - indoors. It also gets along fine with OLDER children (not younger kids) and other pets, perhaps not cats. This breed is known to be outgoing, keen and alert as well, which makes it an excellent watchdog. Because this breed loves being close to its owner so much, it may become destructive if left alone for extended period of time.

Care: WARNING! This breed requires EXTENSIVE grooming. Brush its coat daily to prevent knots, tangles and mats. Also, bathe it weekly and keep its eyes and ears cleaned. Dental hygiene is important to prevent having a toothless dog, and do not overfeed this breed as it can gain weight very easily.

Training: It may be difficult to housetrain. Try the crate method as it works best. Although this breed is a quick learner, its stubborn streak requires patience, persistence and consistency. IMPORTANT! Shih-Tzu does not response to harshness and punishment.

Activity: Short daily walks or vigorous indoor play sessions and games (example: Fetch, Tug of War). Remember to bring along a poo-bag and some toilet paper if you are taking your dog out for a walk!

Photo taken from http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ShihTzuPup3.jpg

Dog Astrology - Anyone?

Wow it's 2009 and I have not blog for quite some time already. It has a long narrow head with an accentuated frontal stop and a rather large nasal canal. Its neck is long and muscular and its front legs are perfectly straight. It has muscular thighs and round feet with short, dark nails.

The Great Dane's tail is medium-length, reaching to the point of the hock. Its eyes are round and usually dark - with a lively intelligent expression. Its ears are either cropped rather long, pointed, and carried erect, or left natural. Its well developed white teeth must close in a scissors bite. All Danes have short, thick, shiny, close-fitting hair.

The color of the coat indicates the variety. fawn, brindle, black, blue, mantle harlequin and sometimes Merle. However Merle is a common result of harlequin breeding, but it is not a recognized color. Black coats and dark eyes, while blue Danes may have lighter eyes.

The Great Dane is a gentle giant. Dignified, kind, sweet and affectionate, it is playful and patient with children. It loves everyone and needs to be around people. The Great Dane does not bark much and only becomes aggressive when the circumstances require it. A steady dog, responsible and dependable. Brave and loyal, it is a good watchdog but may be slightly difficult to train.

Height: Dogs 30-34 inches (76-86 cm) Bitches 28-32 inches (71-81 cm)
Weight: Dogs (54-90 kg) Bitches (45-59 kg)
Dogs of even larger size are more prized.

The Giant Schnauzer

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qYHZKsmIeQk/SLZJQ5udcXI/AAAAAAAAAIc/AYVUZTeCFS0/s400/24396578.24396578.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239455771214573938" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qYHZKsmIeQk/SLZJQz_PPvI/AAAAAAAAAIs/c-4B2yirW_M/s400/1277039617_4cb4d2b4f8.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239455769674333938" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qYHZKsmIeQk/SLZJQxBzdtI/AAAAAAAAAIk/UR1IAMdm88A/s400/282386624_5b22412798.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239455768879789778" />
Pronunciation - Giant SCHNOW-zer.

The Giant Schnauzer is a large, powerful, compact dog with bushy eyebrows, whiskers and a beard. These microchips have serial numbers that are unique for each dog. Well, the problem is when our dogs are stolen or lost, we can't trace it unless we run around with a microchip scanner, or track it unless the chip has a GPS.

So the cert is merely to show that this dog is totally 100% purebred, and you'll be able to see its lineage. But beware, there are many fake certs around too. And how can we identify whether it's a fake cert or not, I'm not sure yet. Somebody tell me!

I have found a site/forum debating whether is it necessary for purebred dogs to have MKA certs. Copy and paste this site to a new window and read on... http://www.malaysianbabes.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t7410.html

So cert or no cert - it's entirely up to you!

Buu Buu

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qYHZKsmIeQk/SaNgzjmIRgI/AAAAAAAAAME/_AdDzt56rgA/s400/abu3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306191224817337858" />
Abu @ Buu Buu is my 5 year old Salt & Pepper Miniature Schnauzer. His name is Abu because his fur colour is grey with a mixture of black and white, like ash. We call him Buu Buu for short.

The first time I saw him was in SS2, Pet Pals. He was a mischievous little boy, always playing with his elder brother in the small display cage.

I used to visit him almost everyday after work. I'd hang out in SS2 and have dinner there, and then visit the pet shop to see Buu Buu. He was a small puppy that can be held in just one hand. I wanted to have him but there was a lot of thinking to be done - like where to keep him, whether my parents will allow me to keep another dog (cos they'd start the whole nagging process again), will he be noisy and do I have the time to look after him and to train him, etc.

You see, I bought a yellow Labrador previously from a breeeder in Seremban. He brought a litter of puppies down for me to choose. And I picked the SHY one, which I named Oreo later. She was a beautiful puppy and soon grew up to be a wonderful lady. She was very obedient - she'd sit very still whenever I brought out her meal and only starts eating when she hears the command "Eat". She's extremely playful and super friendly though. She'd say HELLO to strangers and hug and smile at anyone who came in.

Because she was a large dog, she was kept outside the house. I had to wash the carporch area with soap everyday because my parents hated anything that smells like dog. After almost a year and probably a thousand naggings, I was told to give Oreo away. I was really sad but I ended up giving her away to a friend. He wanted to bring her back to his hometown in Kemaman, and that night we drove up in 2 cars to Kemaman, Kelantan. I left Oreo there and said goodbye to her the next day.

Honestly I have visited her only once after that - she grew up really BIG. She loves where she is now because she can roam freely around the neighbourhood. She's a very smart dog too.

And so... getting Buu Buu required some plannings. After much consideration, I decided to buy Buu Buu. I went to the pet shop again after work one day and I said I wanna buy him. I paid a deposit and came back the next morning to pick him up. He comes with the MKA cert (MKA = Malaysian Kennel Association), so he costs RM1,800.

I bought a collar, leash, brush, bowl, kibbles (dry pet food) and vitamin for him, which amounted to a total of RM2,000+. It was a hefty sum. WOW. I can't believe I spent that much. But Buu Buu, like Oreo, is very obedient too. They both didn't make noises when they arrived at the house.

What about my parents? I brought Buu Buu home in the middle of the night and left him in a cage (first night) in the kitchen, and left a note on the table "Staying for temporary only." Guess what - he stayed for 5 years+ now! Buu Buu has been sleeping in my room since the 2nd day until today.

After several months, Buu Buu's MKA cert arrived - his original name was Orchid Wong Jack. Eeeeeeeeeeee... Buu Buu sounds better right?

Kindness For Strays

Here are a few things you can do to help:
Send pet food to animal shelters, e.g. PAWS and SPCA [some individuals also keep lots of strays in their houses (out of kindness), so try to send pet stuff to them too!]

Pick up strays and find them homes

Sponsor a stray [e.g. pick them up and spay / neuter them - this discourages breeding, thus less strays (especially puppies) being killed on our jalan(s)]

Be a volunteer [not everything is about money, just visit any animal shelter and help out - hug puppies, bathe dogs, etc]

Donate money [usually it's for medicines, food, collars, bowls, etc, and of course wages]

Donate old newspapers, unwanted cloths, usable stuff (suitable for dogs and cats)

Encourage responsibility towards animals, spread the news

There are many more things that one can do to help (visit www.spca.org.my or www.paws.org.my).

Whatever it is, don't kill the strays, keep them alive - they deserve to live.

A Puppy Mill Puppy's Story

I don't remember much of the place where I was born. It was cramped and dark, and we were never played with by the Humans. I remember Mom and her soft fur, but she was often sick, and very thin. She had hardly any milk for me and my brothers and sisters. I remember many of them dying, and I missed them so.

I remember the day I was taken from Mom. I was so sad and scared, my milk teeth had only just come in, and I really should have been with Mom still, but she was so sick, and the Humans kept saying that they wanted their money and were sick of the "mess" that me and my sister made.

So we were crated up and taken to a strange place. Just the two of us. We huddled together and were scared, still no Human hands came to pet or love us. So many sights and sounds and smells! We are in a store where there are many different animals! Some that squawk! Some that meow! Some that peep! My sister and I are jammed into a small cage. I hear other puppies here. I see Humans look at me through the glass. I like the "little humans", the kids. They look so sweet, and fun, like they would play with me! All day we stay in the small cage, sometimes mean people will hit the glass and frighten us, every once in a while we are taken out to be held or shown to humans. Some are gentle, some hurt us, we always hear "Aw they are so cute! I want one!" but we never get to go with any of them.

My sister died last night, when the store was dark. I lay my head on her soft fur and felt the life leave her small thin body. I had heard them say she was sick, and that I should be sold at a "discount price" so that I would quickly leave the store. I think my soft whine was the only one that mourned for her as her body was taken out of the cage in the morning and dumped.

Today, a family came and bought me! Oh happy day! They are a nice family, they really, really wanted me! They had bought a dish and food and the little girl held me so tenderly in her arms. I love her so much! The mom and dad say what a sweet and good puppy I am! I am named Angel. I love to lick my new Humans! The family takes such good care of me, they are loving and tender and sweet. They gently teach me right and wrong, give me good food, and lots of love! I want only to please these wonderful people! I love the little girl and I enjoy running and playing with her.

Today I went to the veterinarian. It was a strange place and I was frightened. I got some shots, but my best friend the little girl held me softly and said it would be okay. So I relaxed. The vet must have said sad words to my beloved family, because they looked awfully sad. I heard Severe Hip Dysplasia, and something about my heart... I heard the vet say something about back yard breeders and my parents not being tested. I know not what any of that means, just that it hurts me to see my family so sad. But they still love me, and I still love them very much!

I am six months old now. Where most other puppies are robust and rowdy, it hurts me terribly just to move. The pain never lets up. It hurts to run and play with my beloved little girl, and I find it hard to breathe. I keep trying my best to be the strong pup I know I am supposed to be, but it is so hard. It breaks my heart to see the little girl so sad, and to hear the Mom and Dad talk about it might now be "the time." Several times I have went to that veterinarians place, and the news is never good. Always talk about Congenital Problems. I just want to feel the warm sunshine and run, and play and nuzzle with my family.

Last night was the worst. Pain has been my constant companion now, it hurts even to get up and get a drink. I try to get up but can only whine in pain. I am taken in the car one last time. Everyone is so sad, and I don't know why. Have I been bad? I try to be good and loving-what have I done wrong? Oh if only this pain would be gone! If only I could soothe the tears of the little girl. I reach out my muzzle to lick her hand, but can only whine in pain.

The veterinarian’s table is so cold. I am so frightened. The Humans all hug and love me.They cry into my soft fur. I can feel their love and sadness. I manage to lick softly their hands. Even the vet doesn't seem so scary today. He is gentle and I sense some kind of relief for my pain. The little girl holds me softly and I thank her, for giving me all her love. I feel a soft pinch in my foreleg. The pain is beginning to lift, I am beginning to feel a peace descend upon me. I can now softly lick her hand.

My vision is becoming dreamlike now, and I see my Mother and my brothers and sisters, in a far off green place. They tell me there is no pain there, only peace and happiness. I tell the family goodbye in the only way I know how-a soft wag of my tail and a nuzzle of my nose. I had hoped to spend many, many moons with them, but it was not meant to be. "You see," said the veterinarian, "Pet shop puppies do not come from ethical breeders." The pain ends now, and I know it will be many years until I see my beloved family again. If only things could have been different.

(This story may be published or reprinted in the hopes that it will stop unethical breeders and those who breed only for money and not for the betterment of the breed). The two pitbulls rushed at the five children on the street, prompting George to charge the much larger dogs as the children escaped. The Jack Russell was badly mauled by the two pitbulls and later had to be put down because of his extensive injuries. The two pitbulls were also put down. The SPCA medal is usually awarded to people for their bravery in defending animals.

"George was a very brave little dog who almost certainly prevented severe injury, if not death, to at least one of the children," SPCA chief executive Robyn Kippenberger said. "It's truly tragic that he paid with his own life for his instinctive act of courage." Hudman, 58, of Austin, Texas was a US Marine for 30 years and said he decided to send his Purple Heart to George's owner Alan Gay after reading the news on the Internet because the dog was "a little warrior".

The Purple Heart is awarded to those killed or injured fighting for the US military.

Click With Pets Today

This blog is created today in memory of all the dogs, cats, fish, hamsters, all creatures that have died because they have suffered or have been abused, neglected or because they have done something really brave that led to their death.

I will share information based on compiled knowledge and on what i personally do for my own dogs to anyone who's interested.
